Description

Artisanal & small-scale mining (ASM) creates serious environmental, health, and labor concerns. State strategies to implement regulation of ASM have varied widely and are handled differently in every country. Although the challenges posed by ASM are the same, state responses vary from cooperative to coercive strategies. Our panelists will discuss some of the most effective methods in addressing the challenges posed by ASM, and will speak to actions taken by different jurisdictions in South America that could serve as a framework for other parts of the world.
