Spectral Mapping from Space

Description

Remote Sensing data has been used to support the mining industry for over 30 years using ground and airborne techniques to both identify, monitor and map features around mines as well as part of exploratory activities.  Satellite data specifically has since 1972 provided us with information on general lithology and potential sources of alteration.  In the last 20 years the capabilities have improved building on this earlier technology and allowing detection of more groups of minerals to provide insights into potential alteration patterns, and when combined with geology, insights into potential prospects of interest.  This presentation will share some examples of how satellite data has and can be used for this application with case examples from different terrains.
